Acid-Base Chemistry Project

Task 1

Read about acids and bases in a good encylopedia. Define an acid. Ask a question about acidic reactions and find the answer to the question. Support your answer with facts and list the source of those facts. Use the answer to ask at least three more questions. Determine the answers to each of those questions. For each new answer ask at least three new questions and find those answers. For each new answer ask at least three new questions and find those answers.

Task 2

Define a base. Ask a question about basic reactions and find the answer to the question. Support your answer with facts and list the source of those facts. Use the answer to ask at least three more questions. Determine the answers to each of those questions. For each new answer ask at least three new questions and find those answers. For each new answer ask at least three new questions and find those answers.

Task 3

Define pH, if you have not done so. Ask a question about pH and find the answer to the question. Support your answer with facts and list the source of those facts. Use the answer to ask at least three more questions. Determine the answers to each of those questions. For each new answer ask at least three new questions and find those answers. For each new answer ask at least three new questions and find those answers.

Task 4

Define titration. Ask a question about titration and find the answer to the question. Support your answer with facts and list the source of those facts. Use the answer to ask at least three more questions. Determine the answers to each of those questions. For each new answer ask at least three new questions and find those answers. For each new answer ask at least three new questions and find those answers.

Project 1

Prepare a chart showing the molecular structure of various acids and/or bases.

Project 2

Prepare an exhibit demonstrating acid reactions.

Project 3

Prepare an exhibit demonstrating base reactions.

Project 4

Prepare an exhibit demonstrating how to test for pH.

Project 5

Prepare an exhibit demonstrating titration.

Project 6

Collect acids and bases. Prepare a short description of each acid or base in your collection. Describe its uses. Note all relevant safety information and observe all safe handling instructions.

Project 7

Build a pH meter or other apparatus to determine pH. Include complete notes on the construction and callibration of the device. Develop a user's manual. Make and record measurements of pH for substances found.

Project 8

Build a titration apparatus and include complete notes on its construction and use.

Project 9

Measure the pH of substances before and after chemical reactions. Record all results as they happen.

Project 10

Use titration to study the evolution of chemical reactions.

Project 11

Make a model of acidic reactions.

Project 12

Make a model of basic reactions.

Project 13

Perform an experiment to verify predictions of acidic or basic reactions.
