The purpose of this page is to detail the training program of the Tornado Spotter Network. As time goes on there will be pages added for specific online training (including photos, diagrams, and video), a discussion forum for each training course separately, announcments of new training courses being made available, and times/locations where personal training will take place.
We begin where the National Weather Service
training ends. Below are the training courses
we offer:
1) Basic Spotter Training, essentially a
reproduction of the basic two-hour NWS training.
2) Spotter Training, a ten-lesson training
program going in-depth about storm structure
and dynamics, safety, communications, and
procedures for spotting. This training is available online.
3) Log-Keeper Training, the first of the
base operations training sessions. The Log-Keeper training for base operations is on-line.
4) Radar/Satellite/Computer Meteorology,
a new offering that covers what to look for
when using the computer to get weather information
and how to put it together to assist in base
operations.
5) Communications Officer Training, the second
base training session.
6) Coordinator Training, the final base training
session.
7) Severe Weather Forecasting.
