Language Courses (LITR)

Minor Requirements

In order to gain a minor in literature you must gain at least 6 points from English Composition and 5 points from either Literature, Essays, Fiction, or Poetry.

LITR 100: English Composition

This is a survey of writing. The topic list for this project is: finding a topic to write about, storytelling, narrative, grammar, paragraph construction, developing detail, research, comparison writing, classification, and writing papers.

LITR 101: Literature (Pre: LITR 100)

The topic list for this project is: classical literature, religious literature, medieval literature, renaissance literature, literature of the restoration, 18th century literature, romantic literature, victorian literature, 19th century literature, 20th century literature, modern literature, and electronic literature.

LITR 102: Essays (Pre: LITR 100)

The topic list for this project is: the essay format, composing your thoughts, footnotes, bibliographies, research essays, and exposition.

LITR 103: Fiction (Pre: LITR 100)

The topic list for this project is: the nature of fiction, fundamental conflicts, telling the story, characters, scenes, description, and continuity.

LITR 104: Poetry (Pre: LITR 100)

The topic for this project is: the nature of poetry, imagery, figures of speech, rhyme, rythm, structure, order, sonnets, elegy.

LITR 105: Grammar and Usage (Pre: LITR 100)

Second Minor Requirements

In order to gain a second minor (or a minor following an Associate Degree) you must gain at least 6 points from a 200-level project and 5 from another project.

LITR 200: Classical Literature (Pre: LITR 101)

This project involves reading and making notes on ten classic works of literature at the choice of the student (this must include The Iliad, The Odyssey, and The Aeneid).

LITR 201: Religious Literature (Pre: LITR 101)

This project involves reading and making notes on ten classic works of religious literature at the choice of the student.

LITR 202: Medievel Literature (Pre: LITR 101)

This project involves reading and making notes on ten classic works of medievel literature at the choice of the student.

LITR 203: Renaissance Literature (Pre: LITR 101)

This project involves reading and making notes on ten classic works of renaissance literature at the choice of the student.

LITR 204: Literature of the Reformation (Pre: LITR 101)

This project involves reading and making notes on ten classic works of reformation era literature at the choice of the student.

LITR 205: 18th Century Literature (Pre: LITR 101)

This project involves reading and making notes on ten classic works of 18th century literature at the choice of the student.

LITR 206: Romantic Literature (Pre: LITR 101)

This project involves reading and making notes on ten classic works of romantic literature at the choice of the student.

LITR 207: Victorian Literature (Pre: LITR 101)

This project involves reading and making notes on ten classic works of victorian literature at the choice of the student.

LITR 208: 19th Century Literature (Pre: LITR 101)

This project involves reading and making notes on ten classic works of 19th century literature at the choice of the student.
