We have the following certificate programs under Archaeology:

Archaeology Practioner Certificate (ARPC)

Must already have a SAC.

ARCH 1 Introduction to Archaeology + ARCH 2 Data Analysis + ARCH 3 Basic Methods of Archaeology + 2 Electives + 2 Research Projects

Learning Projects

ARCH 1: Introduction to Archaeology

Core: The nature of cultures. Organization of societies. Communities and households. Technology and trade. Diet and health. Gender and ethnicity. Symbols and ritual. Archaeological survey and excavation. Artifact analysis. Reconstructing the past.

Optional: To be determined

Experimentalist: Conduct an experiment, obervation, or analysis

Theorist: Conduct a calculation, a derivation, a proof, or build a model.

Honors Session: Short archaeology project.

ARCH 2: Data Analysis (CORE 11 or CORE 14 and CORE 13)

Core: Review of data analysis. Error analysis. Propagation of error. Statistical analysis of error. Review of probability. The normal distribution. Other probability distributions. Parameter estimation. Statistical plots. Fitting data to a curve.

Optional: Databases. Data mining. Time series. Data modeling.

Experimentalist: Conduct data analysis

Theorist: Conduct a calculation, a derivation, a proof, or build a model.

Honors Session: Short archaeological data project.

ARCH 3: Basic Methods of Archaeology (Prerequisite: CORE 11 + ARCH 1)

Core: Review of research methods. Legal issues. Site survey. Maps and mapping. Photography and digital photography. Data acquisition. Sample collection. Sample conservation. The archaeological laboratory. Laboratory artifact analysis.

Optional: To be determined
