Self-Study Course
Task List 4: Self-Testing
In the last lesson we explored how to use
various types of instructional materials.
In this lesson you will learn how to test
your own understanding of the material and
mastery of the techniques you have studied.
General Tasks
- Can you provide a definition for each of
the terms you have studied? Can you do so
without looking it up? Make a list of each
term and then choose ten at random. Give
a definition of each.
- Can you identify each major principle of
your subject of study? Can you explain each
of them? Make a list of each principle by
a name and/or number. Choose ten at random
and explain each principle. Demonstrate the
validity of each of the chosen principles
along with a clear explanation of your reasoning.
- Can you identify each major technique used
in your field of study? Can you perform each
of them? What, if any, are the special cases
for each technique? Can you prove that each
technique is valid? Make a list of all of
the techniques by name and/or number. Choose
ten at random. Develop at least two examples
of the use of the ten techniques along with
an explanation of why you used the technique
in the way that you used it, and show each
step in its use.
- What questions developed during your study
were you able to answer? Make a list of the
answers to the questions you asked as though
explaining them to someone who didn't know
the questions.
- What questions developed during your study
were not answered? Make a list of these.
Do they trigger a desire to learn more about
your subject? Do they make you want to engage
in a research project?
